The short version

Use the tools. Do not be a nuisance. Do not do anything illegal. If you set out to break things, we will ban you.

That is honestly the whole thing. Everything below is the same idea with more words, because that is what a page like this is for.

1. What this is

makeavid.app is a set of free tools that run inside your web browser. No charge, no account needed for most of it, no catch. We built them because we wanted them to exist. You should be at least 13 to use the site.

2. Do not do anything illegal

Do not use these tools to create, edit or compress anything illegal.

In the interest of full honesty: we will have no idea whether you did. Your files never reach our server, so we cannot see what you are working on, and we could not check even if we wanted to. That is not a wink and a nudge. It is a limitation we are telling you about up front, and it means the responsibility for whatever you make is entirely, unambiguously yours.

3. Your work is yours

Anything you make with these tools belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it, no licence to it, and no rights over it. We could not claim rights over your pictures even if we were the sort of people who tried, because we do not have your pictures.

The flip side of that lovely arrangement: we cannot lose your work, and we also cannot get it back for you. Same reason. Save your files somewhere sensible.

4. Do not be a nuisance

Things that will get you banned:

How a ban actually works here. First we suspend your account. If you simply make another one, we block the email address. If you are still at it, we block your IP address, at which point you have to start being genuinely inventive and we stop being interested.

We do not have to warn you first, and we do not owe you an explanation. This is a free website, not a courtroom.

5. Your account

If you create an account, keep your password to yourself. Anything done from your account is treated as having been done by you. If you think someone else has got into it, tell us and we will sort it out.

6. Things will change, and things will break

These tools are free and actively being worked on. We may add apps, change apps, or take apps away. Something that worked yesterday may not work today. If a tool swallows an hour of your afternoon we will be genuinely sorry, and we will probably fix it, but that is the extent of what we owe you.

7. No warranty, and the obligatory boring paragraph

The tools are provided exactly as they are, with no promise that they work, that they will keep working, or that they suit whatever you are using them for. So far as the law allows, we are not liable for anything that follows from using them: lost work, a missed deadline, or a video that came out looking like a potato.

Use your judgement, and keep a copy of anything you would be upset to lose.

8. Privacy

That gets its own page, and it is the one we actually care about: read the privacy policy. The short version is that your files never leave your device, and we keep a basic log of visits for 30 days.

9. Changes to these terms

If we change them, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change ever matters, we will say so plainly rather than quietly reword a sentence and hope nobody notices.

10. Talk to us

Anything here unclear, unfair, or just plain wrong? Send us a message. We do read them.
